Making candles out of beeswax is a fun "hands on" activity for the little tykes. Since there is no melting of wax, the kids do not need to be near a hot stove. Beeswax candle making is a neat and tidy project with easy-to-find materials.

3. Slice wick approximately 3/4 inches longer than wax sheet (allowing excess on both sides of candle)

Leaving available wick at each ends allows you the choice to decide which side of the candle you prefer as the top and which side the bottom.

Lay the wick on the sheet's tip first, fold it over using approximately 1/8-inch of beeswax then begin rolling. This seam will enclose the wick securely.With the tips of your fingers, roll the wax around the wick in a straight and secure line while pushing both sides at the same time. This is probably the most difficult step thorughout the process of making candles.

An alternative is if you flip over the beeswax, fold down the wax creating a 1/8 inch seam using either the counter corner or a cutting board. Either or – just make sure you obtain a perfect seam in the process.

In candle making, you need to determine how thick you'd wish your candle to be. The thicker you want, the more beeswax you will need to add. Do this by putting the additional sheet edge to edge with the original and melding the pieces together with your thumb. Be careful to roll the beeswax in a straight line finishing only when the last part of the beeswax is wrapped securely around itself.

When you reach the end of the wax, use your thumbs to gently press its edges.  Continue going along the whole length of the candle creating an invisible seam.

Determine which part would work well as top for your candle then slash half an inch off the wick above the beeswax. Remember to take the residual parts of your wick from the end.

Your children might be too young to recognize the little pleasures in this craft project but you no doubt do. So go ahead, ceremoniously light your glorious achievement, inhale the exotic perfume and enjoy this splendid moment! As for the children? The end result — candles that your kids can proudly call their own!
