First you need to know that a parent company set MLM up. And that company can be you, as long as you’re large enough with numerous products that need sold. But usually, it is set up by huge companies that are known to be large manufacturers of different products. The only responsibility these parent companies have is to make the products and services they plan to sell. Providing support for their product is one other thing they do. How they sell and advertise their products is what makes them unique from other normal businesses.
Normally, most companies market their products through billboards, magazine ads, newspaper instalments, radio ads, etc. This way, people are persuaded to visit their stores and buy their product that was advertised. With multi level marketing companies, not nearly as much money is spent to advertise. They find customers by using people. The people they recruit are known as spokespersons for their downline. The great thing about this is that people don’t have to go to a store because the product is sold directly to them by the downline. So, the product is bought directly from the representatives.
But, the parent company doesn’t hire the representatives. To even sell the company’s products they have to pay because they are given commissions with each sale. Because the rate of commissions varies from each company, many try out different MLM programs to find the best one for them. They are not tied down by contract. What the independent representatives want to do is recruit other reps to sell the company’s product. By doing this they make a commission not only for themselves, but also for their downline sales. This model is really not all that hard. It is because of this simple concept that people have mistaken the multilevel marketing process for pyramid schemes. The process is similar in both, but pyramid schemes don’t take care of training, preparing, commissions, or their people that are in the pyramid. The biggest difference between the two is that pyramid schemes just use people to make money when they recruit.
