Tips To Boost Your Business's Customer Acquisition

By June 4th, 2010

It goes without saying that customers are the lifeblood of every business model.  Thus, it is not surprising that any business–of any shape or size–utilizes some form of new customer acquisition strategies.  Make sure to try out these helpful tips to optimize the strategies you are using to find and reach out to new customers.

1. Don't set your marketing budget free: There are many managers and business owners who are under the impression that advertising is like any other investment–it's money that will almost always come back to you in the end.  This isn't the case.  You should be aware of, and hold your marketing and advertising activities accountable.

2. Test: Increasingly, there are more and more marketing venues which will allow you or your business to track the effectiveness of the efforts and the resources you've put in–it is always wise to use these resources.  Even though scouring reports won't bring people through the door (or onto the site!), it will allow you to get more milage out of your marketing campaign.  Even businesses who use less conventionally measureable tactics (like radio or television) can still, with a bit of thought, determine ways to track their overall effectiveness.

3. Be flexible: Okay, so maybe grabbing a new customer isn't always the best solution.  Many experts state that new customer acquisition is not necessarily the best strategy, all the time.  Choosing to appeal to your existing customers to return, and create loyalty can often prove more cost effective than seeking out and courting new business.

4. Walk in your customers' shoes:  Regardless of what stage your marketing campaign had reached, your customers should have a variety of ways to gain access to your business.  It is important to know these pathways which your customers are taking.  Know how your customers are accessing your products/services, and what difficulties might be preventing them from buying from you.  Having an understanding of issue which your customers are having, and knowing about your customers' habits can significantly boost your ability to bring in those new customers.

There isn't a business on earth which isn't already using some new customer acquisition strategy, from an interactive website to a Facebook page, even to the sign hanging in front of a shop.  However, a little know-how, and some careful planning can build up the presence of any company, and make them seem more desirable in the eyes of their potential customers and clients.  This presence, down the road, will boost your business's sales, and, of course, profits.
