This is my second brother laser fax machine; I replaced the first after 5+ years to get the 33.6 increased speed, not because it wore out (or broke). I have had it over 13 months and remain glad I upgraded; it's fast enough both in and out (just saw the review complaining about this when I came to Amazon to buy toner). Maybe commercial fax machines are faster but for my home based business its quite sufficient(1 to 50 page faxes are my norm). What I really like about Brother is the ink cartridges; use them for my laser printer needs too. My cost per page are lower than HP ever was and I prefer having a dedicated fax better then an all in one.

For high-speed faxing the Brother 2920 is Super G3 compatible, offers data compression in MR, MMR, JBIG and MH formats. Sending faxes from networked computers can be done easily. There are 4 options for setting the operations. These allow the user to use the unit in the way that suits the office best. They are:

Manual. In Manual there are two sub-modes. The Brother 2920 can be set in Distinctive Ring mode or Full Manual. In Full Manual, each call has to be answered live. An answering machine cannot be used. Once answered, the fax ring alerts the 2920. The user must keep the line open until the Brother Intellifax 2920 picks up. The Full Manual Mode is best implemented where the line does not receive primarily faxes. If the line is networked with computers, the Distinctive Ring feature must be activated.

In Fax/Tel mode the 2920 answers every call and identifies each call as fax or voice. It receives fax calls and forwards voice calls to a pre-assigned extension. This mode is best implemented on a line that receives primarily fax messages. No answering machine can be used in this set-up: not even off an external wall jack and not the office voice mail system.

The Fax Only would only be used when the phone line is a dedicated fax line. Every call is answered by the unit and no forwarding is possible.

In External TAD (Telephone Answering Device) the Brother Intellifax 2920 Printer works with a dedicated external voice mail system. Calls are answered by the answering the system operates in c Intellifax 2920. Voice calls are routed to the dedicated answering machine. It is not possible to have voice calls routed to any extension not answered by an answering machine when in this mode of operation.

As a copier, the Brother High Speed Laser Intellifax 2920 Printer features 15 pages per minute copying speed, 200 x 300 dpi resolution, up to 64 gray-scale half tones, enlargement – reduction variations from 200% down to 50% and up to 99 copy capacity.

The document and media handling range of the 2920 is from legal size down to 3.9 x 5.8 inches. Document feed capacity is 20 sheets and supports plain paper. Brother Fax 2920 equipped with output trays that were designed to hold up to 100 sheets, while the input tray has a maximum capacity of 250 8.5 x 14 sheets with weight from 60 g/m2 to 161 g/m2.

The Brother Intellifax 2920 Toner cartridge has a 1500 page print capacity. It uses the 100-element ink formulation that Brother is famous for. Brother brand ink ensures correct balance, eveness and accuracy and while minimizing smearing and clogging.
