ACCA And Performance Management Accounting: Some Facts And Figures

By September 18th, 2010

In its Annual Review, 2009-10, the ACCA repeats its strategic goal to be the leading global accountancy body by size, influence and reputation. The Review also makes clear that the organisation wants to remain “fit for (this) purpose”, whilst continuing to support its members.

These and other key points of the Review are set out in the latest blog by the group's Chief Executive, Helen Brand. In addition, Helen notes that in a recent survey, there was 99% awareness of the ACCA among employers and among international employers 48% thought ACCA was the leading global body for professional accountants. To show just why it is, that the ACCA is so highly respected, here are some further facts and figures about the group, the qualifications and Performance Management Accounting, paper F5.

The ACCA has existed for over 100 years, with the objective of providing business relevant, qualifications and professional development. Since these are based on international accounting standards they are recognised in 170 countries. The ACCA is committed to the highest standards of professional and ethical governance and works tirelessly to promote their adoption. It has 140,000 members, 60% of which are employed in the corporate sector and 404,000 students plus 83 offices across the world.

In the tough economic climate, professionals who can understand and manage the finances are in demand. To this end, ACCA qualifications provide all the learning, skills and values needed to succeed. The course has three main elements, being a series of fourteen exams, a three year period of practical experience and a module on professional ethics. The examinations are comprised of nine compulsory, fundamental papers together with an additional five professional papers.

Business success is determined by the adoption and execution of tried and tested business practices, such as performance measurement. Recent concepts such as this and backflush accounting, a short cut used when deploying a "just in time" operation, are picked up under Performance Management Accounting, paper F5. The course, however, is by intention and method of examination, not simply a download of theoretical knowledge but provides the skills needed to contribute to the world of corporate work. Whilst very demanding, the ACCA has sought to give all the assistance needed to enable exam success. For example, paper F5 has its own specific microsite. Here, students can find everything they wish to know about the subject, from a precis of the syllabus to activities devised to test your learning and advice on how to prepare for exams. The ACCA really does lead the way, in every way.
